"I'm watching for something a little racier, Mistral IMCO or Equipe on eBay..."
might also check 'marketplace' on FB (and other local WS FB groups), mebbe run a 'want ad' in your local groups and see if word of mouth works to scrounge something from out of the rafters, and mebbe a search all craigslist engine
These older raceboards seemed to have dropped in price i think. saw a cpl MEQII's at $250 lately, including the one i got last july. maybe foils have made a dent in the demand-side of things.
my Equipe is actually the Equipe Concept that released after Equipe II's. It is undoubtedly quite faster than other more recreational or beginner longboards; those 10-11'rs etc but i mostly notice it not in sensations of speed necessarily compared to my JP 10'9, but in greater distances that are covered easily in light wind, non-planing. a serenity-like experience? but easier and more capability in other conds
I've been exclusive shortboarder since '95 but have been finally giving longboard a 2nd try; just been using my equipe in 'ghosting' mode in light wind, 6.5m sail so far, but have become a little enthused with idea of re-learning some further raceboard skills like upwind railing etc next summer. but compared to other longboards, it's not great kit for freestyle.
i used to have IMCO 25 years ago and had really forgotten how difficult these things are to sail ; mostly in reference to turning
for consideration of gliding of arbitrary boards i dont have easy access to, I compare the waterline length, and the slenderness ratio = L/W. there's more to non-planing speed/efficiency than just that but it gives you something to think about at least.
