Topic: political opinion on the US presidential race

Like many Americans, I am at a loss on how to make a diference when it comes to the governing of my country. I hate the mudslinging-name calling and dishonest campaigning and posturing. Those that say, "If you don't vote you have no right to complain.." aren't making sense because voting for one of 2 shitty candidates isn't much of an imput.
If a candidate can promise lower taxes and to restore everything that the previous liars have never fixed or restored and claim moral superiority against their low-life, stupid opponents... aren't we fools to vote as if it might matter?
An example of this silliness is Republicans claiming the Democrats will raise taxes (presumably by giving stuff away to the poor) when the last 8 years of Bush have put us in the biggest financial mess since the 1920s.
Any thoughts?

Good one, Bob.

In my last years in Italy I had a similar attitude. Most of the times, the politicians were all so equally disgusting that I chose not to vote. But when Mr. Berlusconi (the smartest italian criminal) decided to enter the scene in the mid 90s, I went back to vote against him.

In the US case too, for me it's quite clear who's the least bad and if I could I would vote...

In other words, go to vote to try to avoid the worse.

Re: political opinion on the US presidential race

Is it really that bad?

The US is on an inevitable path to economic chaos due to an unmanagable debt, which will drag the rest of the world with it, and you have to vote for the least incompetent to fix it?

I think I will go sailing tomorrow!

Well, that's my problem too! I have no idea who of this two will make less harm.

Who? ... and why you think so?

Russian: Unless he corrects me, I guess that Giampaolo would go with me on Obama. McCain, who finished almost last in his class of 900, seems to show it when he talks and that's way too much like Bush. Obama, despite all the racism and suggestions of Muslim ties, seems to be less dangerous, will make progress in foreign affairs with a softer line and less apt to bring further financial destruction to my children and grandchildren. And the world could not stand Palin as president if something happened.

Die USA ist auf eine unvermeidlich Weg zu wirtschaftliche chaos Dank eine unmanagable Schulden, den den rest der Welt, ziehen wird und Sie müssen für die zuletzt unfähig, es zu beheben stimmen?

Dolf, you've been listening to my hero George Carlin. ;-)

Re: political opinion on the US presidential race

We have a new crop of idiots vying for the Republican nomination.

Rick Perry and Michelle Bachmann both claim that God has called them to run.

I didn't know God was so indecisive.

A little background on the Texas governor's claims of job creation: the largest employer in TX is one of the pizza chains. Pizza Inn or Pizza Hut.

I didn't vote for the clown, but he has the state leading the race to the bottom in both education and pollution.

Re: political opinion on the US presidential race

the clown may be off on those things and the economy, but the economy has been mishandled since Reagan's trickle down theories. Reagan is a perfect example of US public idiocy. The majority of conservatives I know think he was a saint (TV face) and I believe him to have been a very confused and evil man. Central and South America and Russia; he didn't have a clue. I'm glad to see my stupid post above again for two reasons. It showed me how wrong I can be (maybe) and also that somehow my post got tagged in a different language with something I didn't say????? peace and love. mb

Not surprised to see them try to ride the religious bandwagon BUT God is supposed to be left out of politics anyway.
In regard to pollution and education; I live in Hawaii, they need no help doing a poor job in these two areas.

Re: political opinion on the US presidential race

Although there's aspects of Obama's style that I am disappointed by, there is no way I would even consider any of the current GOP contenders.

I'm ready to vote for this guy right now:

Well, I don't know about him enough to vote for him, but I totally agree with your and his sentiments. OK, a bit beyond, there are some substance and leadership issues where Obama really has been very, very disappointing. Both parties are so distorted at this point it's pathetic.

Alan Grayson: I agree with Geoff that I want to know more about him,  but he does look more in tune than anyone else I've seen or listened to.

Guys, we're moving some of GP's topics, so I'm closing down this thread since it doesn't really belong in the HSM forums

Economists widely cite facts that most middle class American families did not keep up with inflation in the last 25 years. Thus, the cost of gear is lower in inflation-adjusted dollars (and quality immeasurably better), but in terms of discretionary funds windsurfing seems more out of reach than it was 25 years ago.

You need to thank 30 years of reactionary policies that have transformed the USA into a socialist state for the mega-rich. 15% percent tax for millionaires and billionaires while we pay almost three times as much and need a mortgage to send kids to school. Organize: a spin off of We are the 99% might be a resurgence of windsurfing wink

Ahem....well, we can move these provocative discussions to another thread - Giampolo's forum, maybe. Where is he, anyway? Nobody has posted on his site for a long time and we should get that going again. This topic would be a perfect fit...

I moved the stuff here, but really think you can discuss offline or on a political forum such as maybe the links Davide provided.

#2) Adjusted for inflation, board prices have actually gone down. But so has the median income here in the USA. Economists widely cite facts that most middle class American families did not keep up with inflation in the last 25 years.

Whoa, whoa indeed: I wonder why the reply to this post was removed? It was just elaborating on the quote above and making a link to We are the 99% as a possible solution to our sport problems ... obviously meant to be funny.  Was it the Hot-Sail-Maui-political-police or something more sinister yikes? Censorship at HSM!!!!! What next? Exile to Ho'okipa (please take me!) ... lighten up!!!! big_smile
