Re: A Sail for Summer?

Streamers - oh yes, it just gets better - or more ridiculous - or both - yes, both for sure.  But can we specify the color of the streamer (to get even more ridiculous)...  We still haven't heard the name for this sail.  What's it going to be called?

And for color schemes, hmmmm...  There are some excellent tried-and-true vintage options.  Would have to simplify 9 panels to 6, but either one would be super (my Hobie 16 was the Carumba, and it was beautiful):

I have suggested "SummerFreak"

- as it is a sail for summer and you can get all the freaky colours (or maybe you just need to be a freak to want one tongue)

Regarding streamers and making it easy for Jeff - making them single color only - and then we could just specify the color we want when ordering - and I bet that most of us would order more than one smile

Also I suppose the streamers should be made from UL like material to be light enough to be effective...

Nice inspirations with the Hobie 16 sails colors
(if I didn't, or wasn't able to windsurf, I'd be sailing a Hobie 16)

Streamers- yes one color. Yes UL material (sorry, less colors)

Sail names:

Re: A Sail for Summer?

As it will be a totally non competitive sail,  I would go also for Summerfreak. Retrofreak second option.

it's over there, near the Mistral longboard with the orange and yellow sail.

Surfingsen, any idea where that pic was taken?

I haven't seen that many rigged boards in one place in my life.

Found it here http://www.seabreeze.com.au/forums/Wind … e-picture/

Re: A Sail for Summer?

Thanks for the inspirations, all. I'm planning my summer freak now, and thinking about NY Ocean's Hobie sails. 6 panels, horizontal stripes, streamers, this will be fun. Probably a 7.5 for my Kona 11'5, although the idea of rigging a 6.5 on a 430 is tempting. Especially since the Original Windsurfer sail was @ 6.0.....

Re: A Sail for Summer?

Yesterday I hadn't the possibility to go out in my Venice Lagoon because the boat engine is still on repair and it's almost ipossible to rig the Stealth 8,5 inside my small boat.
So I started dreaming about a sail good to be rigged and then somewhat rolled over the mast. But a powerful sail, as big as possible. So I was dreaming of a different shape, something like a latin style sail of ancient times...
I mean with only one batten but almost long pheraphs it would be possible to have a trapezioidal sail, like the ones on the stern of ancient vessels. With some amount of downhaul the big batten would keep the sail in shape, loosing the downhaul the long batten will loose the leech for stronger winds...
Something like this but closed on the top

I like SummerFreak but I think the RetroFreak has some mileage...

Re: A Sail for Summer?

From a marketing perspective summersail has a nice ring to it and brings to mind nice images.
Summerfreak may make no sense at all to anyone not familiar with Superfreaks and this sail is aimed at people who are not necessarily hardcore sailors.

Re: A Sail for Summer?

Man, a Summer Freak would be awesome today here in Wisconsin on Lake Michigan, perfect spring day, light winds, just want to be on the water with a simple Dacron sail and longboard.

Jeff, any good news on the Summer Freak?
