Re: Hot Sails new Extensions ?

no one said their was a problem with the ext O ring,  mine came  placed above the collar,
look at Jeffs  1st photo on post # 30,  just above the base is a O ring,  the 2nd photo maybe its there but its not visible.

So the query is where does it belong and what does it do ?

Re: Hot Sails new Extensions ?

It belongs above the collar to keep the collar from falling off when you carry it around.

Re: Hot Sails new Extensions ?

First, a correction - I recalled that the 0-rings were on the solid boosters, not the liquid fuel tank (which the leaking fire cut into).

I certainly wasn't picking on aviation - another industry I admire - and I suspect you have been a great mentor to many. Indeed, medicine could / should learn a lot from aviation where the accident rate is far lower than in medicine. It's thought that this is due to contrasts in what happens when mistakes are discovered.

Many people (myself included) found the role of the formerly German soldier, that Peter Sellers played in the film "Dr Strangelove..."(rest of title left out), very funny. But on deeper thought, I can't think of anything funny about the Holocaust. Perhaps many Germans didn't find Seller's role amusing, I don't know. Point being - loss of life doesn't necessarily make a topic taboo against humor. I agree with Jeroen, and find bittersweet to be a great flavor because of the heightened awareness it brings.

Enough for me. This is a windsurfing site, intended for play and emotional release from all of this tension and taking everything so seriously (thought that's important).

When the heck is that 2011 site going to be up and running so we can get our extensions?!

Re: Hot Sails new Extensions ?

Is there a European importer out there that has these in stock and will ship them to the UK, as our importer is not planning on stocking them?  sad

Re: Hot Sails new Extensions ?

DON'T PUT YOUR TRUST IN THIS EXTENSION.

I did - until yesterday...
(it was as new, i only used it five times)

went down in a cutback on a baby-wave (1 meter) on a desert island 2,5NM offshore yesterday and it snapped like plastic. the tube placed on the "aluminum-tube" is not a good idea, and the lowest holes are clearly too low in combination with that construction.

everyone of my friends (incl myself) thought that at least a couple of us had extra extensions in our backpacks to the island - but we only had mastbases, fins, tools, ropes, phones, water and bananas....

my friends sailed back to get my spare extension, but the wind died (despite a solid forecast) and they couldn't return to me. a while after that my phone died. alone not knowing if someone was coming, darkness falling, 7degrees celsius, cold water and rain for 4 hours (was starting to think i was going to spend 12hrs of pitch-black-darkness, wet in freezing cold out there) before a taxiboat that was sent for me finallly picked me up.

VERY DISAPPOINTED - use this extension for freeride only or near your home-beach in warm weather.

ps. we are all experienced sailors and had taken a lot o precautions, myself has been windsurfing for 24years.

Re: Hot Sails new Extensions ?

Maybe you weren't following the forums, but the new HSM extensions got recalled soon after release. I guess this is the reason why...

They definitely look cool and are some of the lightest out there. Hopefully, Jeff will bring them back soon - with stronger alloys.

Ouch ... my problem with the Titanium extension was not with integrity but with the pulleys: they froze solid and did not turn any longer (nor could they be disassembled) after a few months. I did get a full refund, but some elements of the extension might need a redesign. The titanium tube felt a bit too flexy (but it might have been an impression) and I personally did not like too much the position of the cleat, it was too tucked in and a bit tricky to reach especially using a downhaul tool. Something like the new Neil Pryde, in stainless steel, seems better.

Re: Hot Sails new Extensions ?

WavePope, that is a terrible story. I have had similar experiences with Fiberspar masts so I know how scary and frustrating that is when you expect something to be solid and it is not. Glad to hear your safely back on land. Where did you buy this extension?

Re: Hot Sails new Extensions ?

All masts can break. And extensions. Good masts more often than good extensions. But this was a small crash from a 67kg guy in a 1 meter wave. I was under the impression that this was the real deal, stuff to trust even in big waves.

I dont wait to take this any further in public, waiting for reply from my distributor. If I hadn't been stranded for half a day, freezing my balls off, I would probably never posted this. I was just really upset to be put in the position that escalated.

Clearly this version should never have been on the water - am I right?
- In that case take responsability and withdraw them all from the market ASAP.

Re: Hot Sails new Extensions ?

Hej,

I bought some of the  composite hybrid extensions in may. I ordered them in norway.
until now, all are allright an look still bulletproofed.

I just read the bad experience of wavepope -really terrible.

Which kind of extension you took, the alloy, composit, carbon or titanium?
Have all extensions the same problem?
Where did they break?

Is it better to dispose my extensions or can I still use them.

Re: Hot Sails new Extensions ?

I also am using these everyday with no problems. The part that can break is the bottom cast part. Every one that has broken did so in the first few uses. The tubes are not the issues, and FYI, not a single composite has broken the tube ever.
Your welcome to trade back for a refund, we will refund if you. Or keep using, like me.
