Outside the Bristol Zoo, in England , there is a parking Lot for 150 cars and 8 coaches, or buses. It was manned by a very pleasant attendant with a

Ticket machine charging cars £1 (about $1.40) and Coaches £5 (about $7). This parking attendant worked there solid for all of 25Years.  Then, one day, he just didn't turn up for work.

"Oh well", said Bristol Zoo Management - "we'd better

Phone up the City Council and get them to send a new Parking attendant . . . "

"Err . . . No", said the Council, "that parking lot is your Responsibility."
"Err . . . No", said Bristol Zoo Management, "the

Attendant was employed by the City Council, wasn't He?"

"Err . . . No!" insisted the Council.

Sitting in his villa somewhere on the coast of Spain (presumably), is a man who had been taking the

Parking lot fees, estimated at £400 (about $560) per
Day at Bristol Zoo for the last 25 years. Assuming 7Days a week, this amounts to just over £3.6 million

>($7 million - or $280,000 every year for 25 years)!
And no one even knows his name.

Moral of this story: you don't have to be a Wall Street Animal or one of its banking whores to steal successfully!!

Ha, ha, ho, ho!!

Re: Thread for stuff unrelated to windsurfing

Here's a truly heartwarming story about the bond formed between a little 5-year-old girl and some construction workers that will make you believe that we all can make a difference when we give a child the gift of  our time. A young family moved into a house, next to a vacant lot. One day, a Construction crew turned up to start building a house on the
empty lot. The young family's 5-year-old daughter naturally took an interest
in all the activity going on next door and spent much of each day observing the workers.Eventually the construction crew, all of them "gems-in-the-rough," more or less, adopted her as a kind of project mascot. They chatted with her, let her sit with them while they had coffee and lunch breaks, and gave her little jobs to do here and there to make her feel important.
At the end of the first week, they even presented her with a pay envelope containing ten dollars.
The little girl took this home to her mother who suggested that she take her ten dollars "pay" she'd
received to the bank the next day to start a savings account. When the girl and her mom got to the bank, the teller was equally impressed and asked the little girl how she had come by her very own pay check at such a young age. The little girl proudly replied,  "I worked last week with a real construction crew building the new house next door to us."
"Oh my goodness gracious," said the teller, "and will you be
working on the house again this week, too?"
The little girl replied, "I will, if those a**holes at Home Depot deliver the f***n' sheet rock..."

Kind of brings a tear to the eye - doesn't it?

A Tennessee couple, both certified rednecks, had 9 children.  They went to the doctor to see about getting the husband 'fixed'.  The doctor gladly started the required procedure and asked them why after nine children, did they now make this decision?

The husband replied, "We read in a newspaper article, that one out of every ten children being born in the United States is Mexican, and we don't want to take a chance on having a Mexican baby because neither of us can speak Spanish.

Re: Thread for stuff unrelated to windsurfing

A fleeing Taliban, desperate for water, was plodding through the Afghan desert when he saw something far off in the distance. Hoping to find water, he hurried toward the oasis, only to find a little old Jewish man at a small stand, selling ties.. The Taliban asked, "Do you have water?" The Jewish man replied, "I have no water. Would you

like to buy a tie? They are only $5." The Taliban shouted, "Idiot! I do not need an over-priced tie. I need water! I should kill you, but I must find water first! "OK," said the old Jewish man, "It does not matter that you do not want to buy a tie and that you hate me. I will show you that I am bigger than that. If you continue over that hill to the east for about two miles, you will find a lovely restaurant. It has all the ice cold water you need. Shalom."

Cursing, the Taliban staggered away over the hill. Several hours later he staggered back, almost dead and said, "Your freakin' brother won't let me in without a tie!"

Re: Thread for stuff unrelated to windsurfing

This excerpt is the climactic scene from a very touching feature-length film that I saw with my girlfriend almost 20 years ago (I didn't know any better and she wanted to go see it). With the exception of the anthropomorphized sounds of whining, panting, there is almost no dialogue, true to the Alaskan wilderness setting.

The basic plot is that the very young cub is orphaned, and not having any other options it imprints itself on the male grizzly. Of course, grizzly males don't raise cubs, so it is a tenuous relationship of the cub needing the grizzly, and the grizzly not wanting to have the cub around but not being able to let go. They have all kinds of fun and misadventures, weaving a story of true love for each other.

Out of context, this scene reveals the humor in the brief disbelief that maybe the cub stood down the lion, and the comeuppance adage of picking on someone your own size. But this movie is a truly heartwarming film about families and how hard it is sometimes to 'be there' for each other, and that true love can prevail.

Marvelous twist on an old theme, fabulous cinemaphotography, not a dull moment, and the juxtaposition of this 'human' story viewed in the life of grizzly bears creates a most intriguing look at the meaning of life.

This movie gets a 10, and I'm not sure it belongs in this thread. Anyone who truly gets the meaning of windsurfing, and particularly those who contribute to this forum, is well-acquainted with what this movie is all about.

That being said:

A professor at the University of Mississippi was giving a lecture on 'Involuntary Muscular Contractions' to his first year medical students. Realizing this was not the most riveting subject, the professor decided to lighten the mood slightly. He pointed to a young woman in the front row and asked, 'Do you know what your ass hole is doing while you're having an orgasm?'..
She replied, 'Probably deer hunting with his buddies.'...

America armed, but guns not necessarily loaded

NEW ORLEANS – Bullet-makers are working around the clock, seven days a week, and still can't keep up with the nation's demand for ammunition.

Shooting ranges, gun dealers and bullet manufacturers say they have never seen such shortages. Bullets, especially for handguns, have been scarce for months because gun enthusiasts are stocking up on ammo, in part because they fear President Barack Obama and the Democratic-controlled Congress will pass antigun legislation — even though nothing specific has been proposed and the president last month signed a law allowing people to carry loaded guns in national parks.

Gun sales spiked when it became clear Obama would be elected a year ago and purchases continued to rise in his first few months of office. The FBI's National Instant Criminal Background Check System reported that 6.1 million background checks for gun sales were issued from January to May, an increase of 25.6 percent from the same period the year before.

"That is going to cause an upswing in ammunition sales," said Larry Keane, senior vice president of the National Shooting Sports Foundation, a trade association representing about 5,000 members. "Without bullets a gun is just a paper weight."

The shortage for sportsmen is different than the scarcity of ammo for some police forces earlier this year, a dearth fueled by an increase in ammo use by the military in Iraq and Afghanistan.

"We are working overtime and still can't keep up with the demand," said Al Russo, spokesman for North Carolina-based Remington Arms Company, which makes bullets for rifles, handguns and shotguns. "We've had to add a fourth shift and go 24-7. It's a phenomenon that I have not seen before in my 30 years in the business."

Americans usually buy about 7 billion rounds of ammunition a year, according to the National Rifle Association. In the past year, that figure has jumped to about 9 billion rounds, said NRA spokeswoman Vickie Cieplak.

Jason Gregory, who manages Gretna Gun Works just outside of New Orleans, has been building his personal supply of ammunition for months. His goal is to have at least 1,000 rounds for each of his 25 weapons.

"I call it the Obama effect," said Gregory, 37, of Terrytown, La. "It always happens when the Democrats get in office. It happened with Clinton and Obama is even stronger for gun control. Ammunition will be the first step, so I'm stocking up while I can."

So far, the new administration nor Congress has not been markedly antigun. Obama has said he respects Second Amendment rights, but favors "common sense" on gun laws. Still, worries about what could happen persist.

Demand has been so heavy at some Walmarts, a limit was imposed on the amount of ammo customers can buy. The cutoff varies according to caliber and store location, but sometimes as little as one box — or 50 bullets — is allowed.

At Barnwood Arms in Ripon, Calif., sales manager Dallas Jett said some of the shortages have leveled off, but 45-caliber rounds are still hard to find.

"We've been in business for 32 years and I've been here for 10 and we've never seen anything like it," Jett said. "Coming out of Christmas everything started to dry up and it was that way all through the spring and summer.

Nationwide, distributors are scrambling to fill orders from retailers.

"We used to be able to order 50 or 60 cases and get them in three or four days easy, it was never an issue," said Vic Grechniw of Florida Ammo Traders, a distributor in Tampa, Fla. "Now you are really lucky if you can get one case a month. It just isn't there because the demand is way up."

A case contains 500 or 1,000 bullets.

At Jefferson Gun Outlet and Range in Metairie just west of New Orleans, owner Mike Mayer is worried individuals are going to start buying by the case.

"If someone wants to shoot on the weekend you have to worry about having the ammunition for them. And I know some people aren't buying to use it at the range, they're taking it home and hoarding it."

With demand, prices have also risen.

"Used to be gold, but now lead is the most expensive metal," said Donald Richards, 37, who was stocking up at the Jefferson store. "And worth every penny."

Re: Thread for stuff unrelated to windsurfing

The teacher gave her fifth grade class an assignment: get their parents to tell them a story with a moral at the end of it. The next day the kids came back and one by one began to tell their stories.

Kathy said, "My father's a farmer and we have a lot of egg-laying hens. One time we were taking our eggs to market in a basket on the front seat of the pickup when we hit a bump in the road and all the eggs went flying and broke and made a mess"

"And what's the moral of the story?" asked the teacher.

"Don't put all your eggs in one basket!"

"Very good," said the teacher. "Now, Lucy?"

"Our family are farmers too. But we raise chickens for the meat market. We had a dozen eggs one time, but when they hatched we only got ten live chicks. And the moral to this story is, don't count your chickens until they're hatched."

"That was a fine story Lucy. Johnny do you have a story to share?"

"Yes, ma'am, my daddy told me this story about my uncle Bob. Uncle Bob was a Green Beret in Vietnam and his helicopter got hit. He had to crash land in enemy territory and all he had was a bottle of whiskey, a machine gun and a machete. He drank the whiskey on the way down so it wouldn't break and then he landed right in the middle of 100 enemy troops. He killed seventy of them with the machine gun until he ran out of bullets, then he killed twenty more with the machete till the blade broke and then he killed the last ten with his bare ha nds."

"Good heavens," said the horrified teacher, " What kind of moral did your daddy tell you from that horrible story?"

"Don't f*ck with Uncle Bob when he's been drinking."
