Re: Breaking news in F1...

You could argue this:
Lewis was clear ahead entering the corner and drove a line that would have kept him on the race track except that Kimi drove directly to the apex of the next corner despite Lewis being alongside and giving him no room. In the face of an enevitable collision Lewis changed his line and avoided Kimi.  I have seen this interperted as overly aggressive driving by the defending driver in other races. So Kimi gained an advantage by forcing Lewis off the road and into the clag. Should Kimi have been penalised for that? Is every overtaking manouver up for review by the stewards after the race?

And what about Nico Rosberg that almost took both of them out by re-entering the track right in front of them? There is no doubt that was a hazardous manouver!

Re: Breaking news in F1...

My friend, it is over. Hamilton did not gave back the position, he actually setup the next overtake ( in X style ) similar to an ambush or trap, it was an aggressive move and I have to say very nicely executed. In my view the discussion is not about giving back or not, but about gaining an advantage. Clearly he used it very well, so well that he did overtake in a very short straight. On the other hand, no one was so aggressive as Hamilton, your example of Kimi forcing him out is a very bad one (compared to what Hamilton did to others in the same race), can you state when it was considered overly aggressive before? I can not see how in that particular situation. If there was a wall there, I doubt Hamilton would try to overtaking from the outside, he could brake and loose time or cut, he cut. Not every overtaking is reviewed but the ones that are on the edge like that one but it was the end of the race, no time for a fast decision. The rest is history. Hamilton is a genius like Senna, they bring passionate discussion with them, only the genius do that.

I am just trying to understand the rules better and what you can and cannot do. No doubt if there had been a wall there things would have been different, but that is irrelevant speculation.

I am over it.

Tommorow is the start of a new race, and no doubt a new discussion!

Spa was an exciting entertaining race and Lewis was a big part of that excitment. I look forward to more of the same this weekend. I prefer F1 racing with Lewis (or drivers like him) in it! Ferrari faithful may not.

Re: Breaking news in F1...

So another race and another outcome affected by penalties and giant blunders.

You have to hand it to Alonso pulling it all together after his disasterous qualifying. The Renault finnaly seems to be coming together. Somewhat ironic that the best thing Nelshino has done for Renault all year is stuff it in the wall!

It was disasterous timing for Robert who must have thought a podium was on the cards and was then shuffled down the order eventually finishing 11th after his penalty for fueling under safety car. This is in striking contrast to Nico's penalty which barely had any impact on him. It all seemed to come about becaause of the oder in which the stewards reviewed the infractions.

For the record I hate this rule, I think it is stupid. It penalises drivers who have no other choice than to run out of fuel on the track.

As for Ferarri???

They have come seriously unraveled. I expect such shenanigans from Force India but not Ferarri. The team robbed Massa of a race he was comanding, and possibly the world championship. This is not the first time they have had pit release problems. As for Kimi? If you look at the score sheets marked "Fastest Lap" you would assume he had the title wrapped up long ago. He has fastest lap of 10 out of 15 races but only has 57 points to show for it. I don't get it.

As for the track?  Well it was done as well as it could have been I suppose. The lighting was superb, I don't think the night thing was a factor at all, but there are 3 major problems they need to fix for next year.

1. The road surface is not anything near smooth enough.
2. The track is too narrow with too many corners so overtaking is extremely difficult.
3. The pit entrance seems hazardous - though no incidents this race.

Overall it was an entertaining race, but it could have been so much better!

Re: Breaking news in F1...

Agree 100%. As a Brazilian I have to keep faith in Felipa Massa (this year has shown enormous progress after a bad season start), Ferrari`s faults aside he made quite a lot himself, but I think 7 points and 3 races is too much even for the best cars, no way they will score 1-2 in the next 2 races to even it out and decide here. I also want Hamilton to win, last year it was all his mistakes in China and Brazil, but he is the next best driver of all times (if you know what I mean).

On another note, one Monaco GP was enough now we have plenty, it just sucks. Bring on real circuits, someone has to stop that stupid designer. When I watch a race I want to see a race not the scenery ( I have to agree that when you can combine both it is great).

Re: Breaking news in F1...

I think its called Formula 1 for a reason.

The drivers get paid a tidy sum to bring the car on any circuit to the podium, the engineers/crew are responsible to provide the driver with the vehicle to make it there, the driver will need too beat the car thru tight corners, bumps, bad fuel stops, and officials that don't always make the correct/ consisant decisons.

I don't see any race on the tube as being exciting compared to even the most lack luster course in person.
Just to hear a Formula 1 car on full song .........

Its too quiet on here.....umm

I'm going to predict a new winner in this weeks race, maybe Quick Nick.

The Canadian race is history for next year, I would say lessens the odds of Indy F1 back as well, they alway scheduled those together to combine transportation costs.

I'll pick Kimi 'cause bad luck has to end sometime! I have the feeling Lewis will have a conservative race.

Ok, the bad offical syndrom is contageous

the penality on Sebastian Bourdais is totaly bogus, especially at the benefit of Massa, right now I hope Robert Kubica pulls it off and is the new Formula 1 World Champion.

Re: Breaking news in F1...

What was I saying about Lewis having a conservative race? Well that's what he should have done. Brazil '07?

When they said there would be a stewards inquiry about the Bourdais/Massa incident I assumed they were considering penalties on Massa. Poor old Seb did nothing wrong - it is a crime they took that result away from him (and of course handed a point to Massa). It is also absurd to make a penalty decision after the race at that stage, I have never seen this before.

It does appear that Red cars can get away with murder.

Good job Robert! He is still in it - and I would rather he won from shear effort rather than a contrived win for Massa.

Renault and Fred? Looks to be coming together again - another season looks likely.

Allin all all the teams looked good - well apart from Force India who just can't quite keep up. They have made a lot of progress, but everyone else has made a little more. I think the drivers are part of the problem. They need someone really technical who can develop the car - maybe Schumy is available for some consulting! Yeah Right.

Re: Breaking news in F1...

I think I saw something in Alonso's  eyes on the victory interviews, something tells me he has already gone to another team.

Bad move # 3 ??  for him if so, but much talent and Renault looks good just now.

So much for my predictions on a winner, but then who would have picked Fred Alonso to pull off 2 on the go

Comments on Force India are right on, Fisichella has NO points this year, seem to remember this team have deep pockets , Sutil hasn't shown much.

I hope the Seb. Bourdais ride is on for next year, he has had some bad luck, the STR cars are most impressive.

Honda drivers in question ?

Re: Breaking news in F1...

I have to agree 100%, Bourdais has done nothing but I would not go that far that an eventual championship for Massa would be a "contrived win", he is doing a lot of effort just like Robert K and Lewis. What happens in the now crazy stewards domains is not any of the drivers fault it is just "business", F1 has long been less of a Sport (with capital S) and more of politics&business. Unfortunately. I watch closely F1 since 1972, I can not understand how a steward decision can change a race result, I need to go back to basics, what a driver can or can not do in a race track?  I don`t know anymore. Come on, let them drive. It is all fault of FIA, Mosley and that stupid german track designer, the result : no more passing. The drivers have to take more risks and actually walk the line and the pointing system is a joke. I already have my ticket to Interlagos, I hope it gets decided here, an almost true circuit from the past, after Canada maybe the next one to be cancelled.

Re: Breaking news in F1...

I am not faulting Massa's enthusiasm to win. When I say contrived it is the FIA and the stewards I am pointing my finger at. Should Massa win by one point it will open up a whole can of worms! If Robert wins by 1 point nobody will doubt he deserved it.

Of course I still have this fading hope that Hamilton will actually keep his car on the race track during the last two races. He does not need to win them - but he has got to finish in the points.

Re: Breaking news in F1...

I'm trying to shake the cob-webs from my memory and think back to past incedents involving title contenders:

Senna-Prost
Schumacher-Hill
Schumacher-JV

None of these resulted in race steward sanctions did they? Why so many sanctions handed down by the stewards now? To be honest, I saw only "racing incidents" in the last race including LH leaving his braking too late at the first corner and forcing some guys off track...  Poor SeaBas... I hope he gets a seat at STR next year. I wonder if SV will be regretting his "promotion" to the RB team :-)

Ahhh, it's all good fun in F1...

Only time will time will tell on Seb Vettel decision,  as I recall it was made before his victory, but always the case in Formula 1, nothing is written in stone, and if a high profile team wants him then will dig into DEEEEEP    pockets and pay off his contract.

Yea, at least a couple championships have finalized on the first corner first lap of the the last race.

Re: Breaking news in F1...

Who are we talking about getting bumped? Nico, Nelly? I think the seats in the top teams are pretty secure otherwise as everyone drove well. The only exception is Kimi who's just not been kimi this year - retirement? Seb is probably better off where he is right now if he can't find a seat in a BMW or Ferrari. Ok so Renault won a couple but that is more about Fred than the car. The only thing more stupid for Fred to do than leaving Mclaren would be to leave Renault - unless....
