Topic: Breaking news in F1...

Seems like this sort of off topic stuff should have a new thread of discussion...

It's official. FA is finished at McLaren: http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/63742

Now we can get on with the silly season. Surprised to hear Flavio would welcome him back...

No surprise there!

If I were Dennis I would be trying to get Sebastien Bourdais for '09!

I am not sure who he can steal for '08, but I'd like to see Mark Weber in a fast car.

Re: Breaking news in F1...

I too would like to see Mark Weber in a McLaren. He's been fast in everything and I think he deserves a shot in a top tier seat. Do you know of any up-and-coming kids from the lower formulas who may get a shot?

I think Bourdais will show pretty well. He's coming from a series that did not use traction control so he'll not know what an F1 car felt like with TC... the others will have to adjust. I hope he does well, I'll be cheering for him after watching him dominate champ car here. I suppose Toro Rosa will take over the 07 RB car? Should be a car that can fight for a point or two.

Re: Breaking news in F1...

Oh god another spy scandal! Well now, Max and the FIA have set the bar for what the penalty should be haven't they. It'll be intersting to see if the FIA is even handed in this case.

I think the penelty should be simple... If you are found to be in possession of your rivals data then you will be required to hand over ALL your data to that rival. Of course if your Spyker you'll crawl out of your skin to have a look at what McLaren is doing while McLaren could care less about looking at what Spyker is doing.... Sigh... What to do...

Re: Breaking news in F1...

Ross Brawn goes to Honda. Good for him!

First test with most of the teams running the new FIA mandated ECU's on the 07 cars. I for one am happy be be done with the "driver aid" software like Launch control and traction control. Might we begin to see oversteer on exits again... Gasp! I say get rid of the pit lane speed limiters as well! The best drivers in the world ought to be able to observe the pit lane speed limit without the help of a stinking computer. Not too surprising to see M. Schumacher at the top of the time sheet...

Re: Breaking news in F1...

looks like only Super Aguri F1 and Force India F1, yet to  finalize drivers.
Me guess is Anthony Davidson, Taki Sato..then ...Christian Klien & so long as he's reasonable on money G. Fisichella.

Re: Breaking news in F1...

Force India has big aspirations. I think money won't be the problem when picking a driver, they want performance!

Funny that McLaren looses all their points and a $100 million dollar fine and Renault get nothing! Oh wait, it's the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile based in Paris, silly me!

Still seems as if Frischy has the inside line. According to AutoWeek he's bringing 15m to the team.

Looks like poor Ralphy is out of a job. I suspect he'll be driving an american stock car next! Even DC talked about it!

http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/64419

Ever watch a stock car race? The races on the road courses are quite entertaining. I find however that the races on the ovals are really only fun to watch for the last 20 laps or so.

If only the US GP was at Watkins again!

There will be a serious amount of driver talent in 2008 and I think the teams will be closer than ever. It should be good to watch!

Re: Breaking news in F1...

Watkins Glen is a blast to drive. I raced there twice this year, though the second time ended my tour--got hit by a Corvette at the entrance to the Boot and it turned poor old Peyote back into a collection of smashed beer cans. http://www.allaluminumtour.com/?p=263 . For real racing fun though it's hard to beat Mosport.  Before you do a lap at speed you have to grow a third testicle. I'd love to see a serious race there. Turn two is unbelievable. Blind, downhill, double apex off camber that you take flat out. Touch your brakes and you're off. Blow the entrance and you're off. Lift the throttle and you might stay on but it will be nip and tuck. I found the only way to correct an error was turning in to scrub speed with oversteer.

the whole track is flat out, you brake twice and downshift twice for a 10 turn track. Weird.

Them Canadians is nuts.

I sure hope F1 is half as fun this year as it was last year. It takes a lot of funny circumstances to keep the fever high. As much as I love racing, the Shumacher/Ferrari years got pretty dull.

The pendulum swung the wrong way for MotoGP this year. All the races were dull. And for some reason the great camera work of the last few years wasn't repeated. Something odd happened there. Valentino didn't shine. How can that be.

I merely dream about driving Watkins Glen!

Re: Breaking news in F1...

Why Rossi didn't shine was an easy one wink Ducati delivered and so did Stoner, a real wiz-kid riding a m/c. Remember Gobert? This is how good he could've been if not dipping his nose too much in the white stuff. And Haga, if he'd not been liking the booze as much. I love slidekings with an attitude. And Rossi. Actually I didn't follow MotoGP this year. And then Ducati went ahead and won. My favourite brand of all brands, since I first saw a Ducati F1 (which I 5 years later bought). Look at http://www.ducati.com/heritage/anni80/7 … 0f1.jhtml, 2nd image from the top. Fark it could sound! 120dB(A) measured 5 metres away on flyby with throttle wfo at a local racetrack in Sweden. ame 2nd in the sound contest that year smile

Regarding F1, did you guys see the Race of Champions? Schumacher came 2nd after a certain Swede... wink (Matias Ekström's a real natural talent. He's been at the top in both tourinig cars and rallying. Now he's won RoC twice in a row (beating the WTCC champ, some Nascar guy, Schumi, Travis Pastrama, Kovalainen etc. this year), Check out http://www.raceofchampions.com/ for some action vids

Re: Breaking news in F1...

Yeah, I love Ducks, still kick myself for selling my 916, like $7500 bucks was going to get me that operation . I just don't like hanging on to stuff I'm not using, but I should have made an exception. Just liked to look at it. I've got a MV Agusta Senna that's in the same category. On the rare occasions I ride it I almost need help getting off it. World's worst ergonomics--makes the 916 seem comfy.

I know Stoner and Ducati delivered and then some, but he's not as fun to watch as Valentino--who used to be all about making the impossible run up from mid pack to win. No one seems to be able to do that now.

didn't see the ROC, Travis Pastrana is amazing. Does everything well.

TAH & anyone else who may be interested, as soon as the drivers  are all under contract. Force India   say Thurs  will announce, the driver lineup for 08.

Watch this space !!  smile smile

Payment is at the end of the year, so anyone would have a whole year to save up that 20 bucks, if you are in another country, I can do Paypal to my business, work something out .

<nsip>MV Agusta Senna<snip>

Oh.my.god. My fav bike of all times, the original MV Agusta 750 presented at the Milan bike show in 1997. I was there when they threw off the cover (I was the "Chief editor"/pubslied/responsible (dunno what it's called) of Cucciolo, the six issue (then. Now two I think) a year club mag for the Swedish Ducati Club, by then the 4th largest Ducati-club in the world with it's +1000 members. Also makers of the much renowned wink CD Ducati Passions, released in 1993, with DAT-recorded sounds of Ducati motorcycles. Mine's in it, as well as a freidn of mine's 450 singles race and 6 times Swedish champ in the Classic 500 class). First I saw that, then the Ducati management team invited me for grappa, espresso and lots of food in their vip-area. Spoke to Federico Minoli, Bordi etc. All because I had the indecensy to publish their manufacturing plan for the next 12 months. That in a time when everybody was waiting 6-12 months for their Ducatis, wondering what the h*ll was going on. I did them a favour, on my trusty ol "Ducati Website" (first at micapeak.com, later on ducati.org). But the Ducati mgmt disapproved wink First their marketing responsible called me from Bologna to Sweden, joking about horses heads in my bed (yes, honestly!), then this at the Milan show. I later that weekend had lunch with Pierre Terblanche. My guide for the weekend at the factory was Livio Lodi, creator and initative taker of the Ducati Museum. Wow, what wonderful memories were brought back to me now smile Sorry for the rambling...

Back to the MV... that's one bike I'd love to own. Of the modern bikes, I rank them 1. Ducati Supermono - it doesn't get more beautiful than this. 2. MV Agusta - close runner up. 3. Ducati Monster.
A friend of mine had an MV 750 F4 since new 1998 but sold it 2004 with 50000km's on the clock smile I actually liked the riding position better than the 916/996. It was more spacious for my legs and the suspension more subtle, yet lots better when pushed on the track. But it really needed the open exhaust to get the nice rich song at 7/8000 revs and up by the radial valves. It sounded too japcrap with the original exhaust.

btw, I've never owned a more versatile bike than my Ducati Monster 620ie. Bought a pair of computer-engineered air inlets with tapered K&N's instead of the airbox and it howled like a crazt 748SPS beneath the tank! Those 68rwhp (Dyno'ed) were really alive. I've always loved to ride the inside or outisde route of the japscrap +140hp bikes with kids on 'em that can only ride on their rear wheel and straight forward. It's humiliating but I just love it. Like once when a local "Fast Bikes"-typeof crowd had a rest on the inside of a really good downhill lefthander on a really nive backroad here. I came there with my Bimota DB2SR (with trackday fairings on, PVM magwheels, Braking Wave discs, no sidestand, etc.etc. I.e. full-on-trackday suit, no headlight) laid down the bike hard, noticed there were some guys o the inside, looked at them, let go of my left hand and waved all the while my knee were firmly planted on the tarmac (and I don't like to hand off much. I rather ride in between Mike-the-bike and Jaarmo-style). Then I realised I was in third gear in a 2nd gear curve. Th engine hardly responded when gasing. Had to lift the toes (reversed linking) to 2nd and wheelied away. Later that day, I walked out the gas station and there they were, gazing at my bike. "Hey, saw you today. Do you compete? What bikes is this?" I just smiled and said it was a Bimota. A what? wink And me, competing? I'm slow as a dog on the track. But the 20 year olds today are more into backwheel, bar/tank-riding than gassing it up the backroads... Shit, I've become an ol phart...

I totally agree. Nothing was more entertaining than to watch Vale go from 21st position to win the lot on the last lap. Whenever he was midpack, he really showed the rest who could ride and who could not. As in, he was the only one who could ride. The rest was just stroddling...

Except winning the RoC wink Mattias Ekström whooped his *ss smile And an interview I read in Swedish Auto Motor & Sport, he said he had lots of talk with Pastrana, because Mattias seem to be interested to go overseas. F1 doesn't interest him as much because he thought thte best drivers aren't in F1 smile
