Re: Exocet wind sup

I'd agree with Drew, that if this Fly is for the big lakes I'd go with the 10'6".

I sailed the 10 on the ocean, but on all my boards I go a tad bigger since my sailing is 95% on fresh water.

Well I just ordered a 2011 HRS Fly 10'6"  :-)

Started shaping some paddles too!  Ash handles and redwood blades.

Drew, glad to hear you got that Fly. Wood paddles are gorgeous--have you figured out how to make them less slippery? By the way, that big left beat video wasn't mine, it was Matt's (see above). I do sail in the ocean mainly though......Todd

Re: Exocet wind sup

As far as slippery paddles go, here's the two options I've been considering:

1) Don't varnish the handle.  Ash is extremely hard and should be fine.  Could oil it also.  Like I used to do with my teak booms :-)

2) Sprinkle sand (or sugar) on the wet varnish, like is commonly done on glass boards for non-skid.

Comments welcome!

Now we need reviews on the 10 ft by 32 inch/175 liter volume WindSUP! More choices smile

Re: Exocet wind sup

Well my Fly 10'6" arrived and I've had it out on the lake (flatwater) for paddling the last two evenings.  The light weight and stiffness suprised me a bit, and the glide is very nice.  I think it's a very good choice for me on fresh water.

Looking forward to trying it out in waves, and sailing it with the Freaks :-)
