Topic: which video editing software do you use?

I've been asked this question on my blog and thought about opening a thread here... I almost forgot I have a forum...

Anyway, I use Windows Movie Maker on Windows XP. It's a pretty simple sw to use and even though it has some limitations, it's good enough for me to do what I do...

One day I had a Mac for a couple of hours. Clearly I hated it right away since everything was different, but when I finally figured out how to launch IMovie (or whatever the name of the video editor is), I dragged and dropped a video of 10 minutes that I shot with my Sony camera (.avi).
It took about 45 minutes to import it before I could start editing it!

The same operation on WMM is istantaneously. No conversion in a internal proprietary format at all, the clip is immediately available for editing. That was enough for me to give up the Mac idea.

Questions: is there any Mac user that can either tell me if I did some mistake or confirm me that that's the way it is?

Any other comment/experiences about what you like don't like about the different video editing softwares?

Re: which video editing software do you use?

GP,

May I please piggyback on your Mac question.

I recently got a new laptop with Vista. All kinds of changes that I have to relearn from XP for no improvement in performance and lots more errors and "sorry we have encountered a problem and need to shut down and even through you never had this problem with XP it is some other programs fault and not ours".

I am starting to believe the Mac TV commercials. Have others switched from Vista to Mac and what is your experience?

Re: which video editing software do you use?

GP,
I asked the original question.

RE the MAC vs Windows thing, I think it's mostly personal preference - based largely on what you're used to.  I used macs at home and PC's at work for years.  When MACs wained and the software disappeared, I switched to PCs exclusively.

My 79 yr old mom has a mac, and struggles with it constantly.  My brother's use both.  all the mac users struggled when mac was changing its operating systems in the last few years.  I played around with a new mac airbook (really light machine -great for travel), but I didn't really find anything more intuitive or better - again, I'm used to windows.  I think you get used to one and tend to prefer it, except maybe for the graphic arts people that prefer macs.

I had vista on my current machine for about a microsecond.  Switched back to XP.  All of the operating systems have their bugs.  I hope apple does well.  None of like having one company control our computer use.
