Re: Starboard 7' SUP

This seems to blurr the boundaries between wave sailing, SUP, longboarding, and Dolf's favourite lightwind shortboarding. If I recall corectly this board is the Aero with a deck psd. So other than the vastly superior skill of Ivan this is like my 8 or 9 on my Aero in the waves, except that I don't have to paddle with a wisp of wind. The downside would seem to be no gliding, but IMHO that may be slightly overreated dependintg on one's degree of type A personality.

I find it fascinating and exiting for our sport with the new possibilities of all these ground breaking alternatives.

Re: Starboard 7' SUP

That is still my favorite SUP surfing clip (other then mines, of course wink ).

He says the board is a kid's board... does it make it an Aero?
Dolf, I need to try to paddle your Aero...

Re: Starboard 7' SUP

Ola posted somewhere he tried that board for paddling and even with his 70kilo,s it was too small for him...but great action from what i think a already great Surfer and SUPer.

ivan is the man.  his drop knee turns are something else, esp. on the other youtube vid of him, where he's riding a jimmy10.  stylish stuff.

How about I go beside you with the Big Red and we get Ola's wife to take pictures and post them. That should be good for some laughs. Depending on the wind we might also try the big ULs on the same boards

Today I have allocated to building my rack in my new van in Al's garage. After that you know where to find me!

It's actually 7'2" x 29"...2 + 1 fin setup...

Next to the 9'8" Fish:

I'm 90kgs and had no problemo paddling it in the ocean...
Here's a buddy of mine ~ the same weight doing it...obviously, paddling it into waves is more difficult...but, it's not a submarine...and an 8'2" version would be quite doable for a bigger guy with some surfing skills...

I posted pics of it on my blog back in January...

It's with one of my team guys right now...lightweight surfer that rides <6' surfboards in critical surf...
Haven't had a chance to go up and get pics yet...because, the surf and weather is too nice around here to leave...

We have several projects in the works right now that are pushing against this envelope...
A newer 8'8" custom is on it's way to the islands this week for testing...the last one was overkill...flaoted a 250lb guy...

Also...now, that we've proven the Starboard production 9' Fish is so rippable in the surf for bigger guys...at least up to 220lbs...we have a few bigger wave variants in the works...

Sprinkle in some of the findings from playing with the new Exocet Kona longboards...and the renaissance age of standup / longboard wavesailing is dawning...;-)
