Re: Hero

GP, I uploaded the instructions to my domain (see below). But I think it's the same as the instructions on this link (the link was written in the instruction document): http://www.digital-products.info/YDC300_update.htm where there's also the firmware upgrade.

(Otherwise Available at www.familjencederlund.se/Instruction-Digital-HERO3-patch.pdf)

Haven't got around installing it yet and therefore, niether have I been able to check the improved video quality or sound ditto.

However, I received the new housing today. Now that's what I call quick service! In less than a week I got a replacement housing from the Hero-guys. Air mail to Sweden. Too bad they didn't send me the new one with helmet-fastenings... wink (would've liked that one...)

Surfingsen, did you finally receive them?

Yeah I received them, and have for the past 2 hours tried to install them on the home XP - bloody Billybob Fence or at least it should be his name since its make you wonder whats going on and nothing opens..... -

Driver installs - tralalala - restart PC - tralalala - camera connected - tralalala - installing drivers - tralalala - try updating - what!! "Code 10 error" - "cant find the USB device" - #$"¤%* - its only because my wife is hugging the crying kids ears so they don't learn a new language and I'm getting a bronzed back from her stare, that the bloody thing isn't lying in bits in the yard.

Tomorrow I will try installing it on my trusty old Windows 2000 IBM laptop- everything usually works on that

Re: Hero

I've never seen anything like that. I'll point it out to the GoPro people...

In the meantime, I just posted my best video ever: http://mauisurfreport.blogspot.com/2007 … iling.html

Re: Hero

I had the same issue of short video clips and zooming in with my GoPro too. I installed the patch a few months ago and it worked great, although the instructions from them were hard to understand. Here is what they told me about the patch:

"You can fix it with a downloadable patch update to the camera. In addition to fixing the ZOOM problem the patch also adds a second sound setting for use in high vibration filming situations where you might be experiencing sound break up / overload on the mic (attaching to a windsurfer, car, bike, moto, etc.).

In the SET menu you will now have a HI/LO option.
HI - the normal sound recording volume you've been using.
LO - lower sound level for high vibration situations (strapped to BIKE handlebars, motorcycle, etc.)

Also, the video is improved 40% (faster/smoother). The size will reduce slightly to 523X384 but if I didn't tell you you probably wouldn't notice. Still scales well to full screen and it is SO much smoother now."

The video improvements were noticeable and the zooming problems are gone now. I tried the LO sound setting but it was too low to hear anything. So now I use HI and just bump the volume down in editing. It's a fun little camera. Here are some of my videos if anyone is interested:

Re: Hero

bwd, I tried installing the software following their instructions but with no luck. Win XP SP2, all patches installed. When plugging in the Hero it wants to install. Everything works fine until the end where XP tells me something went wrong (just as per their instructions). Then when connecting to XP, trying to use the actual updating software (main.exe), it tells me it got no connection with the camera on the USB port. Hero saying "PC" in the LCD-panel. Checking the Control Panel in XP, it shows an exclamation sign and when opening properties, it says just the same as Surfingsen's error message (code 10 etc.). Cannot upgrade the darn thing...

btw, really goodlooking colorcombo you've got on your SF!

Re: Hero

I was contacted by GoPro and sent it back to them and received a new one.

Got to try to plug it into XP tonight, since I haven't tried that yet........

Re: Hero

Just bought "Hero 3". Is there any website with info on this thing? On GoPro almost no info.

VERY IMPORTANT:

don't keep the batteries inside the camera, 'cause they will lose some of the charge! I always keep them (8 of them) in a little bag, so I always have plenty charge at the beach.

AND, always check if the 2GB of SD card are fully available after you download your clips (right click - properties in Windows). Something like 25% of the times they won't and you'll need to quick format the card (right click - format).

I've also found that you have to charge them the night before.  If I leave them in the bag (out of the camera) for a few days, they drain down???

Re: Hero

They do. Not too much, but they do.
So, if you know that the day after you're going to use the camera, it's definitely a good idea to chage them the night before.

Re: Hero

Very helpful thread. I'd discovered some of the problems, but hadn't gotten to the solutions
