Topic: Hero

Hi GP,
I have a Q about your Hero Cam.  What batteries are you using?  Rechargables or off the shelf throw-aways?  How long do they last for you?  Are you getting problems with the files towards the end as the battery dies?  OK, that was more than one Q.

Re: Hero

1000 mAh rechargable ones (k-mart or wall-mart).
They last up to two hours...
No problem with the files towards the end. Not regularly. If you can, just start and stop the clips often so that at least you save most of them...

Re: Hero

Hi Rand,

we found that anything less than GP's recommendation, including Alkaline, did not last the lenght of the memory.

Re: Hero

VERY IMPORTANT:

don't keep the batteries inside the camera, 'cause they will lose some of the charge! I always keep them (8 of them) in a little bag, so I always have plenty charge at the beach.

AND, always check if the 2GB of SD card are fully available after you download your clips (right click - properties in Windows). Something like 25% of the times they won't and you'll need to quick format the card (right click - format).

Re: Hero

I have experienced that the hinge on my Hero tend to rust, or at least miscolour
Have any of you had similar experience ?
BTW I have only used it in semi salt water (light salted ?)

Re: Hero

Yep, mine does too.
But, it doesn't really look like rust... no big deal, for me.

Re: Hero

GP,
I was leaving them in for long breaks.  I am certain that is what happened.  I am going to reformat right now.  Great tips.

My pin has also gone rust colored.

Thanks!

Re: Hero

Mine's rusty as well, but what's worse is one of the two clips that secure the "hatch" has broken sad Who to contact? The manufacturer directly or the seller?

That was a common defect. Now the new cases have a bar instead of two clips.

Re: Hero

Just wanted to let you all know of the excellent service I got from GoPro. I notified them about the broken clip on my housing and they told me there's this new one (as GP's already pointed out here) and that they'd send me a new one. Excellent smile

Re: Hero

I have experienced a irritating noise on my videoclips that sound like electric interference - has anybody any suggestions what to do about it - it means that the sound cant be used ! (I have experienced it primarily when the camera is mounted like on the board or rearview mirror - when mounted on the wrist there seems to be no problem.....)
Also have you experienced that the camera autofocuses on something far away, for instance like a cloud - like I have experienced - which made for a headshot instead of torso shot ?
BTW great with a dedicated Hero tread smile

Re: Hero

Agree,
the support is great.

Surfingsen,
there's a patch for the sound thing. Here's the email they sent me a while ago...

You can download the patch here:
http://www.goprocamera.com/ftp/digital-hero3-patch.zip

and the instructions are attached (we are translating them better...this is the version from our China factory...broken English).

The only difference now is:

- 40% smoother video (!!!)

- New sound settings in SET menu. HI is nornal sound recording, LO is softer sound recording for motorsports, etc. It MIGHT be too quiet for windsurfing to still hear your voice, etc...but it will eliminate the sound breakup from board vibration, etc. Let us know...perhaps HI will still be best for you?

I confess I never installed the patch, because I'm not interested in having two levels for the audio... either I need it HI (when filming and talking with the helmet cam) or I will cover the sound with a soundtrack...

But now that I read it again, they also talk about 40% smoother video!!!
I better download that fix...
Ask the support email for the latest version of the instruction. Otherwise I can forward you the one I have.

I haven't experienced what you describe.
You sure you don't have a drop of water on the lens when this happen?

BTW, here's my last creation: http://mauisurfreport.blogspot.com/2007 … iling.html

Re: Hero

Hey Scandinavian friend wink
I suppose it's a drop of water as GP suggests, as there is no autofocus on the camera, but rather the simple fixed focus.
GP, could you please post the instructions either here or to me personally. Vid-quality can really be improved so I'll be happy to upgrade mine. And the audio fix can't be bad, because the sound quality is really one of its biggest "achilles heals"

Niclas,
it's a adobe document, I don't know how to post it, so I just emailed it to you and surfingsen...
Maybe YOU know how to post it here...

Re: Hero

Maybe its a drop - but it is clear to see that it's zooming in - I need to put the film of it on the web - will do it either tonight or later in the week

Are they putting this patch on there site or do you have to ask them for it.
I downloaded your patch but with out instructions it is useless to me.
Those new attachments look sweet, can't wait to get my hands on them. The 2" pipe will have to do for now.
