update for 2010 Starboard 9'1 pro for supsail?

Dear all,
I have a 2010 *board 9'1 pro (29" wide @ 130li) which has had a good life surfing and sailing. I love it, but it is starting to fatigue from age and use. I'm wondering what would be a good update for this board.

I'll include a short review of the board, having owned it for several years: It plods up wind quite well by digging a windward rail (thruster helps, but I run a small(ish) rear fin 7") and it will plane reasonably well if powered up (off the wind, but not happily in the footstraps), I sail it with my 5.8 superfreak or 5.3 fire. It really comes into its own on the wave face. It has a flattish centre rocker, because it catches waves very easily for its length and width, with reasonably tail kick for turning. It has limited nose rocker and a big round mal style nose (which I occaisionally will nose ride).

I have sailed in largish surf (logo high... if I had a logo), but I'd prefer to be on my shorter board (fanatic quad 93li) because of the sup's penchant for pearling if snapped off the top of a steep wave and redirected down the face in bigger surf. It is much better to redirect it along the wave rather than try for too radical. With my current fin set up I also have to be mindful of throwing the tail out too much else I can't get it to stop sliding and I end up facing the wrong way and can't recover.

I originally owned a 2010 *board Drive, but couldn't hit the lip as effectively as this one, so I dont want to go much longer. My wife on the otherhand loved paddling the Drive (on flat water).

I could get an updated board from starboard or something else completely... musy be suppable.
I'm 85kg. Windsurfing and surfsailing is my interest, supping is my reality!

I have just bought an Exocet Curve 11'5". It is the same board that started out life as the Kona 11'5", so I know a few of the forum peeps have them or have used them.

I got the bamboo wood version, with the tri setup. It came with a 19cm US box centrefin and a couple of 115cm side fins.

Trouble is, I want to use it mostly in flat water, and my single outing so far with my 7.0 SF suggests that the stock setup is not ideal for flatwater. So i'm looking for advice, The way I see it, my options include, but not limited to;

1. Get the biggest US box fin I can find. Would I use the side fins with this option or not?

2. Have the local custom board / fin maker change the finbox.Suggestions as to trimbox or powerbox.

The straps are fairly inboard, so I'm not looking to turn it into a slalom board, but I would have thought the ability to use fins up to at least 40cm would be good.

I've only been at this a couple of years and all I really know is a longboard without straps. I seem to be getting along very well on my Exocet 11'8 Windsup without straps in varied conditions. Today offered nice offshore winds and the big board was planing quite nicely, am I missing out by going strapless?
It's a badge of honor for kiters to ride their surfboards strapless, but I sense that's not the case in our sport.
When blasting along on a longboard, does it take more strength or effort without straps? My legs sure are telling me that it does.

Hot Sail for longboarding, what/how?

On the LBwindsurfing forum there is a thread about which sail is best for longboarding. At the end the answer is that under 10 knots the better choice is a dedicated light longboard sail, with a closed leech design, like Lefevre and Demon Sails. But these sails have problems with stronger winds.
For people like me using all sails both for longboarding and planning someone suggested to use a STIFF-top mast on my (Hot)sails (Stealth, SD in the future) for longboarding on subplanning conditions, in order to keep the leech always closed. The guy that suggested that says that it worked fine for him having casually rigged his sail (that requires a CC mast) on a Gaastra mast. My idea would be to use the top of the FS 520/32 over the base of another shorter and softer FS mast; or find a Gaastra top...
What do you think about it?

Exocet wind sup

Online I recently came upon a promising new longboard/sup, it's the Exocet windsup 360cm x 79cm.
It has a retractable daggerboard, a step tail like the Kona One, albeit smaller and 220 litres of volume.
I've always been intrigued by the Kona One but wished it was a tad wider. Also on my list, the SUPer 12'6" but not sold on its planing prowess.
This is what I've been waiting for, a good light wind cruiser with decent standup capabilities and also capable of planing. For me, this may be the combination I've been seeking. I may take the plunge!
Check it out. http://www.exocet-original.com/wind-sup118.php

Curious what others think.

Longboard: better NOT planing?

Some doubts after testing (Serenity and Ventura, 2009) and seeing the new longboards 2012.
A longboard is required to glide, so needs to be... long. But market requires also some width to plane when wind pick up. The conclusion is BIG volume, and then big weight if not made of full carbon. The sensation riding my Mistral Ventura 343, told to be 13 kg naked but really near 17 kg with track, pad, centerboard, fin etc. is so obviuosly not light and easy like with a 7-8 kg shortboard, no question (read that real weight of Phantom 320 is the same). Otherwise all carbon for a board the lighter that is possible, but so with huge prices; just seen old pre-2000 catalogues and also for Mistral Superlight was the same, I imagine that for Phantom 377 and Exocet RS D2 will be the same.
And so, instead of these "hybrids" now sold by brands, a shorter Serenity easier to carry but fully gliding at the best even not planing, and even little stronger and heavier, and then a light shortboard for +12 knots wouldn't be the better choice for recreational sailors to have the best of both worlds?
